Life Stories Partners with Life Pieces to Masterpieces
Date
December 2, 2021“Words have power,” says David Adams, a young man who participated in The Theatre Lab’s Life Stories program this fall with nonprofit partner, Life Pieces to Masterpieces. “We came up with stories in our minds that I think people could relate to and I think just having, you know, an audience to see what we did, hopefully, they can take something away from it.”
Over the course of six weeks, Theatre Lab Life Stories teaching artists worked with members of Life Pieces to Masterpieces, whose mission is to use artistic expression to develop character and leadership, unlock potential, and prepare African American boys and young men to transform their lives and communities.
Life Stories instructors led improvisation and idea-generating theatre and writing exercises to enable participants to craft stories based on their own experiences. Then, using the Life Stories methodology, including exploring character, story development, and collaboration, to create scenes and monologues that the young men performed.
