1st-6th Grade Programs

At The Theatre Lab, our summer camp programs are divided into groups based on the grade that the student is entering in the fall. We place all children with their peers based on grade regardless of theatre experience. Camp is a very social experience and we want to make sure they are with a developmentally appropriate group. We keep our classes small and group age ranges narrow in order to provide both a challenging, engaging, and age-appropriate curriculum.

For students entering 1st-6th grades, we offer 1 and 2 week sessions. Group breakdowns as well as dates, times, and themes for each program are listed below:

1-Week Sessions
Fun and fast-paced, our one-week sessions are designed to increase students’ ability to create spontaneously, connect with one another on the stage, use their bodies and voices more expressively, develop unique characters, and have fun with the art of making theatre. These camps are focused on improvisation work that will benefit actors of all experience levels. These sessions culminate in skills demonstrations for friends and family rather than scripted performances.

Musical Theatre Camp for Tweens – (Matilda the Musical, Jr.)

Join us for this fun musical retelling of Roald Dahl’s beloved story. Matilda is a girl with astonishing wit, intelligence…and special powers. Ignored by her self-centered parents, Matilda finds an understanding companion in her schoolteacher, Miss Honey. But the school’s mean headmistress, Miss Trunchbull, hates children and just loves thinking up new ways to make life miserable for those who don’t abide by her rules. In the end, Matilda’s courage and cleverness inspires her classmates to rise up and reclaim the fun of childhood. With lots of great roles for all types, and exciting singing, dancing and acting opportunities, Matilda, JR. is the perfect vehicle for introducing students to the joy of musical theatre performance. As with all Theatre Lab camps, there will be training in improv, scene study, and movement along with Matilda rehearsals and performance.

*This is a program requiring a high-level of commitment from the participants; attendance is mandatory. While auditions are not required for acceptance into the program. Students will be asked to work on their lines, music, dancing, etc at home in addition to the rehearsal time during the camp day. While an audition is not required for acceptance into the program, there will be an audition for role assignment during the first week of camp.

Shakespeare Intensive Camp for Tweens – (A Midsummer Night’s Dream)
An exploration of one of Shakespeare’s greatest comedies culminating in a full production on a professional theatre stage! This program will give participants the tools to create and perform the Bard’s delightful tale of magic, mischief, love, and transformation in front of an in-person audience. As with all Theatre Lab camps, there will be training in improv, scene study, and movement along with A Midsummer Night’s Dream rehearsals and performance.

Summer Training and Performance Programs for Teens

Philosophy: We take teens seriously. That’s the secret to our wildly successful summer programs. We respect the potential of every student and, through intensive training programs culminating in public performances, we commit to developing their artistry —whether they are new to the craft or already on a path to a life in the theatre. And we believe skills can only be developed in a space where students feel a sense of belonging. When you spend a summer at The Theatre Lab, whether you are participating in our two-week Performance Intensive for Teens, one of our month-long Musical Theatre Institutes, our Summer Acting Institute for Teens, or any combination of the three, you are guaranteed to find instructors and students who welcome your unique talents and are eager to make meaningful connections, both onstage and off.
