A lesser-known masterpiece by William Finn, the Tony Award-winning creator of Falsettos and The 25th Annual Putnam Spelling Bee, A New Brain is beautiful musical comedy coming to The Theatre Lab stage!

Facing a life-threatening brain condition, Gordon struggles to come to terms with his life, career, and relationships. A semi-autobiographical piece from the author William Finn, this quirky and fantastical musical tragedy puts the healing power of art center stage. The gorgeous music includes classics like “Heart and Music,” “I’d Rather Be Sailing,” and “I Feel So Much Spring.”

This performance is a staged reading directed by Theatre Lab Co-Executive Director Buzz Mauro.

About the Production

This staged reading is the culmination of The Theatre Lab’s Advanced Musical Theatre Intensive (AMTI), a new adult musical theatre training program designed for college students and recent graduates, older teens with significant musical theatre experience, and alums of The Theatre Lab’s award-winning summer programs. This challenging, exhilarating course culminates in a public staged reading with the entertainment value of a full production with participants focusing on developing a professional level of song interpretation, vocal production, acting, comedy, and skills specific to staged readings.
