JOIN TOP DC ACTORS, DIRECTORS, AND PLAYWRIGHTS FOR THE THEATRE LAB’S 13TH ANNUAL DRAMATHON ON APRIL 29

April 29,2024 (WASHINGTON) — The Theatre Lab School of the Dramatic Arts invites actors and non-actors alike to attend the 13th Annual Dramathon, DC’s one-of-a-kind theatrical extravaganza happening on Monday, April 29 at 7:30pm! This is a free event open to the public. Hosted by The Theatre Lab, the annual event brings together some of Washington’s best-known actors, directors, playwrights, and theatre enthusiasts for a one-night-only live show of short plays written specifically for this event.

The Dramathon is a signature event of The Theatre Lab’s Send a Kid to Theatre Camp campaign, which provides scholarships for our award-winning summer camps and institutes for kids and teens. Anyone can sign up to raise money for the scholarship fund and earn spots on stage next to the professional guest actors. All the actors, playwrights, and directors are graciously donating their time for the event, doing their part to help The Theatre Lab provide more than $140,000 in scholarship assistance to send over 150 low-income children and teens to theatre camp this summer.

“We’re thrilled to be bringing the Dramathon back in person after several years relegated to the world of Zoom. The online Dramathon was fun and rewarding, too, but there’s nothing like getting in a room together to enjoy some great plays, celebrate the creativity of our community, and raise money so as many kids as possible can connect, create, and grow in drama camp this summer,” said Theatre Lab Co-Executive Director Buzz Mauro.

Similar to a walkathon, the Dramathon brings together some of Washington’s best-known actors, directors, playwrights, and theatre enthusiasts for a one-night-only live show of short plays written specifically for this event. Participant pledges will support The Theatre Lab’s Send a Kid to Theatre Camp Campaign that aims to raise $150,000 in scholarships to send over 135 kids to summer drama camp in 2024.

A roster of award-winning and nominated actors is on the bill again this year: Frank Britton (2018 Helen Hayes Outstanding Lead Actor in a Play), Evan Casey (a Signature Theatre regular), Julie-Ann Elliott (Olney Theatre, The Kennedy Center), Christopher Henley (former Artistic Director of Avant Bard), Madeleine Regina (1st Stage, Meisner Technique specialist), Kim Schraf (Ford’s Theatre, Shakespeare Theatre), Deidra LaWan Starnes (Folger Theatre, Shakespeare Theatre Company), and The Theatre Lab’s own Co-Director Deb Gottesman (Keegan Theatre, Woolly Mammoth) will perform in readings of brand new short plays by Allyson Currin, D.W. Gregory, Caleen Sinnette JenningsJake JeppsonJ.J. JohnsonDeidra LaWan StarnesKathryn O’Sullivan, and Laura Zam. All guest artists are graciously donating their time for the event, doing their part to help The Theatre Lab to continue to deliver transformative theatre education.

Don’t miss out on this unforgettable evening! Attendance is free – RSVP required. Visit theatrelab.org/dramathon for more.
