James J. Johnson (J. J.) is a professional actor and writer. As an actor, he has appeared with many
theatres across the DMV, including the historic African-Continuum Theatre Co., Mosaic Theater Co.,
Arena Stage, Everyman Theatre, Olney Theatre Center, Woolly Mammoth Theatre, Ford's
Theatre, Imagination Stage, Theater J, Kennedy Center, and  1st Stage. As a writer, he has received
commissions from 1 st Stage and Mosaic Theatre Co. He has also co-written two award-winning short
films, “Silent Partner” and “Speak Up Brotha,” produced by Black Man Films LLC. He co-wrote the
feature-length version of “Silent Partner” which wrapped in February 2024 in New York City, and
features Roderick Lawrence, Susan Heyward, Jeff Perry, and Shoshana Bean. Directed by Eric Branco. He
is a proud member of AEA and SAG-AFTRA.
