Stephen Sondheim’s Company

Date

August 1

Time

7:30 pm - 9:30 pm

Kick off August at The Theatre Lab with a free, fully sung staged reading of Stephen Sondheim’s Company—winner of 12 Tony awards since its original Broadway run in 1970, and one of the most iconic and groundbreaking musicals of the 20th century.

The story follows Bobby, a single person in New York City surrounded by married couples, exploring the tension between independence and connection, between being alone and being alive. Company invites us to examine what we want from love—and what we fear about it.

Company is a showcase of everything that mades Sondheim’s work so enduring: razor-sharp lyrics, rich and layered characters, and above all, one of the most celebrated scores in musical theatre history. From the rapid-fire wit of “You Could Drive a Person Crazy” to the vulnerability of “Being Alive” and the show-stopping electricity of “The Ladies Who Lunch,” the score is a uniquely electrifying and emotional experience for audiences.
