Masks are optional. By attending any in-person class at The Theatre Lab, students affirm that they do not have symptoms similar to those of COVID-19 (such as fever, cough, or shortness of breath) that cannot be attributed to another cause, and that they have not recently been exposed to anyone with the disease. We ask that any student who experiences symptoms similar to those of COVID-19 get tested or administer a self-test immediately. Students who test positive for COVID-19 may return to class on the seventh day after receiving their positive test results, but not before.
For anyone not ready to return in person, we continue to offer a wide variety of classes online.
Accessibility: The Theatre Lab is committed to creating an environment where all students can thrive. When purchasing tickets for a performance, please email contact@theatrelab.org should you require seating with a service animal or other assistance; we’re happy to work together to meet your needs. Likewise, if you’re a student and need class materials in a specific format, please let us know as soon as possible.
Age Requirements: Adult classes are intended for adults of all ages. It’s not unusual to take a Theatre Lab class with both twenty-somethings and retirees. Adult classes are open to students 18 and over. Students as young as 16 may occasionally be admitted to adult classes with permission, which may be requested by emailing contact@theatrelab.org.
Behavior: The Theatre Lab expects students to value the contributions of others and to treat fellow students and instructors with respect, dignity, and honesty. We reserve the right to dismiss, without refund, any student whose behavior is inappropriate and disruptive to the successful functioning of the class. Disruptive behaviors include, but are not limited to, verbal, psychological, or physical threats; harassment; physical violence; repeated interruptions of class content; and intimidation of any kind.
Class Cancellations: Classes may occasionally be cancelled due to under-enrollment. Students will be notified of cancellations in advance and will have the option for a full refund or credit toward a future Theatre Lab class. Classes cancelled due to inclement weather or other reasons will be rescheduled if students, instructor, and space are available, but sometimes rescheduling will not be possible. Tuition is non-refundable. Weather cancellations will be posted on our Facebook page. If you have questions about a possible weather cancellation, call us at 202-824-0449
Coaching and Mentorship: Cancellation of scheduled coaching and mentorship sessions requires at least 48 hours’ notice from a student. Sessions cancelled by the student after that point cannot be rescheduled or refunded. Frequent cancellation of scheduled sessions, even with notice, may be cause for termination of mentorship or coaching agreements without refund.
Course Bundles: Bundles offer deep savings for registering for several classes at one time. No substitution is possible in class bundles, and bundles must be completed by the end of the specified session. Bundles that have been partially used are ineligible for partial refunds.
Discounts: The Theatre Lab offers a 10 percent discount on tuition for seniors over 60, veterans, Actors’ Center members, and Theatre Lab members. Early bird discounts are available for early registration, and sometimes we send special offers to our newsletter subscribers. Discounts are not valid in combination with other discounts.
Guests/Auditing Classes: In order to provide a safe environment for students, guests are not permitted in classes. Exception: some classes culminate in public performances by students, and in these instances guests are permitted at the discretion of the instructor. Auditing of classes is not allowed. If you’d like to try a short class before signing up for a six-week course, we recommend exploring Anyone Can Act, a single two-hour acting class.
Liability Waiver: I understand that The Theatre Lab makes every effort to provide a safe, enjoyable atmosphere in which to explore both the art and craft of acting. I recognize and acknowledge, however, that there are always risks of accident or injury and knowingly and voluntarily assume all risk of such injury. I release The Theatre Lab from any and all liability and/or claims or damages arising out of personal injury of any kind. I agree to be responsible for any medical bills incurred resulting from illness or injury during my participation at The Theatre Lab. (Signature required on student info form at first day of class).
Non-Discrimination Policy: The Theatre Lab does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, gender, gender expression, age, national origin, disability, marital status, sexual orientation, or military status, and complies with all applicable laws governing discrimination.
Photography and Videography: The Theatre Lab reserves the right to use photos and videos taken in our programs for promotional purposes only.
Refunds: If you withdraw from a class more than 48 hours before it begins, you will receive a full refund minus a $40 processing fee. As of 48 hours before the class begins, tuition is non-refundable and non-transferable.
Registration: Tuition must be paid in advance. A student is registered only upon receipt of payment in full. Full tuition must be paid before the first class meeting. If you require a payment plan, please email contact@theatrelab.org. Note that we can only arrange payment plans that result in full payment before the class begins.
Returned Checks: A $25 fee will be charged for any returned/bounced check.
Staffing: The Theatre Lab reserves the right to make faculty substitutions in any of our programs.
