If you’ve attended a Theatre Lab production this year, you’ve experienced the hard work and talent of this year’s apprentices from the Arts Institute for Creative Advancement (AICA). Launched in 2023, the AICA is a workforce development initiative that provides young adults with the skills, experience, and support to thrive as professionals in technical theatre and live entertainment.
Run by The Theatre Lab in partnership with Capitol Hill Arts Workshop and Life Pieces To Masterpieces, the AICA provides apprentices with 700 hours of paid training and experience in lighting, audio, carpentry, stage management, and more—combining classroom learning with hands-on training and real-world experience led by esteemed DC industry professionals.
The Arts Institute for Creative Advancement (AICA) encourages individuals ages 18–25 who have faced barriers to livable wage employment to apply. No academic degree or prior experience is required, and the AICA welcomes applications from individuals of any gender. Priority is given to applicants who live in DC.
Applications are due by September 30, 2026. Submissions after this date will be considered on a rolling basis.
