An exploration of the numerous elements that go into a successful audition for the screen. Topics will include preparation, appropriate dress, demeanor, techniques for quick character analysis, cold readings, callbacks, and screen tests. All students will be recorded on video for playback and critique.

Prerequisites or Prior Experience

No formal prerequisites are necessary, but some experience in front of the camera is highly recommended.

John Judy

John Judy is a DC area actor-writer-director who has also performed in LA and Chicago. Notable credits include HBO’s VeepHouse of CardsHomicide: Life on the Street, and writing and performing in over 150 original sketch shows at the IO West Theatre in Hollywood. John has taught at Imagination Stage, the Rockville Jewish Community Center, and the Smithsonian Associates Summer Program. His on-camera work includes the Netflix movie Rustin, the indie crime drama Volkov: OriginLovely Molly, a supernatural thriller from the creators of The Blair Witch Project and the award-winning short film Invasion ’53 which has played at film festivals around the world, including the 2025 San Diego Comic-Con. Onstage John’s recent work includes the role of EDDIE in “Shear Madness” at the Kennedy Center and the continuing role of the Detective in Murder Mystery USA's DC area touring company.
