SUMMER ARTS ADMIN INTERN

June-September 2024
20 hours per week to take place M-F, between the hours of 9am-5pm;
collaborative schedule to be determined at the start of the internship. Hours
are flexible and to be determined.
Stipend: $200/week
(Additional hours possible, compensated at $17/hr)
Interested in a career in youth programs, arts management, or arts education?
College students and graduates are encouraged to apply for a summer
internship with The Theatre Lab, Washington’s largest theatre school.

INTERN DUTIES
● Provide top-level assistance to the coordination and administration of
our Summer Acting Camp for Kids
● Assist with the administration and marketing of Theatre Lab programs
including adult classes, youth programs, and more.
● Assist with the administration and marketing of Theatre Lab events
including performances, community events, and more.
● Communicate with parents of campers as well as prospective students
and parents about The Theatre Lab’s programs
● Support the production manager on summer performances
● Contribute to operations and maintenance of the theatrical environment
● Step into the classrooms to offer hands-on support when needed
● Provide other assistance as needed

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES
● Gain experience in program management and arts administration in the
non-profit field, with the opportunity for interested candidates to
explore some production management
● Work directly with the Marketing and Events Manager as well as the
Youth Program Director
● Improve your skills in communications, fundraising, and development
● Interact with top-level theatre artists, educators, and administrators
● Opportunity to enroll in any Theatre Lab classes at no cost (virtual or
in-person) through the end of 2024

REQUIREMENTS

Successful applicants should possess at least one full year of business, liberal
arts, arts management, communications, education, or arts-related study at the
college level or equivalent experience. Excellent judgment, and good written
and verbal communication skills are essential. Candidates must be able to
work independently on tasks and to ask for direction whenever needed and
should have a passion for arts education. The job requires lifting, up to 20 lbs.
periodically.

School Credit and Time Commitment: If the applicant is pursuing an
internship for school credit, the intern will be expected to provide all forms
and school documents to the Program Coordinator to ensure that all school
requirements are met. The internship requires a 20-hour week minimum.
Interns will be required to adhere to the negotiated schedule.

Technical Director —Musical Theatre Institute for Teens

June 24-July 15 (7/4 is a holiday), M-F, 9am-1pm

July 22-Aug 12, M-F, 9am-1pm

Some afternoon calls during Show Tech Week (July 8-12, Aug 5-9)

Approx 160 hours total

$3600 flat rate

Candidate with interest in pursuing career in technical theater will work with Production Manager in operations and maintenance of theatrical environment and student teaching. The Theatre Lab’s Musical Theatre Institute for Teens is one of the area’s most recognized youth training programs. Ideal applicant will have a background in working with youth and strong carpentry and power tool experience. Performances take place at Atlas Performing Arts Center.

Director-Lead Teaching Artist (Youth Programs)
Various Dates/Times as Faculty Positions are Available


The Theatre Lab is accepting resumes for experienced teaching artists who are passionate about working with students from a diverse cross-section of the DMV ranging from Kindergarten-12th grade. Directors develop their own curriculum for the program assigned under the supervision of the Co-Executive Director and the Youth Program Director. Directors will also be responsible for cultivating a final sharing at the end of the program. Candidates should have at least 3+ years experience teaching theatre to young people. This is a part-time, contract position.

Candidates will be required to pass a background check and provide proof of full COVID-19 vaccination.

Earn Free Adult Classes: Usher at Theatre Lab

Ushers make performances possible! You’ll meet other people who enjoy theatre, and get to see *most* of the show for free! After you usher for four performances, you’ll earn full tuition for an upcoming six-week adult class. To apply, send a brief email to marketing@theatrelab.org with your name, ushering experience (if any) and we’ll let you know about upcoming opportunities. Ushers should be prepared to arrive at the venue at 45 minutes before showtime and stay through intermission.
