A Summer To Remember
Date
September 9, 2021It looked a little different–students rehearsed in masks and performed in outdoor tents, giant atriums, and in front of cameras. But, after 15 months of being apart, it sure felt great to create together again!
Here’s our summer, by the numbers:
- 320 kids and teens in acting and musical theatre camps.
- $111,000 awarded in need-based scholarships
- 4 full productions with in-person audiences and live streaming
- 20 streamed virtual performances
Together with the guidance of 35 teaching artists, students brought the words of Shakespeare to life, created new plays, solved mysteries, performed full-length musicals, and grew artistically in so many ways.
We heard from lots of families about the impact of their kids taking part in drama camp in his unusual time. Sentiments like these:”The kind, loving, and encouraging community you create every day is really a huge gift to our family, enabling our child to feel joy and peace after an extremely difficult year and a half.”
Thank you to our creative partners, performers, and families for making this unforgettable summer possible.
In addition to youth and teen programming, the Theatre Lab partnered with Free Minds Book Club & Writing Workshop, Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors, Life Pieces to Masterpieces, and the Armed Services Arts Partnershipto harness the transformative power of theatre and storytelling for healing and positive change.
