7th-8th Grade Programs - The Theatre Lab

7th-8th Grade Programs

For students entering 7th and 8th grade, we offer one and four-week summer sessions. Read on for additional information about dates, times, and programs.

At The Theatre Lab, our summer camp programs are divided into groups based on the grade that the student is entering in the fall.  We place all children with their peers based on grade regardless of theatre experience. Camp is a very social experience and we want to make sure they are with a developmentally appropriate group. We keep our classes small and group age ranges narrow in order to provide both a challenging, engaging, and age-appropriate curriculum.

Musical Theatre Camp for Tweens (four weeks, Session 2/3) Newsies, Jr.
This program, featuring four weeks of singing, dancing, and acting training culminating in a full production of a musical, is for students new to performing as well as those with prior experience. Newsies, Jr. is a high-energy musical that tells the story of the Newsboys’ Strike of 1899. The heartwarming story follows a group of charismatic newsboys (and, in our production, newsies of all genders) who rally together to stand up against the powerful newspaper giants, creating a spirited underdog narrative. A true ensemble show, the junior version of Newsies is shorter than the Broadway original but retains the catchy tunes, anthems, and dynamic dance numbers, along with loads of memorable characters for all types. As with all Theatre Lab camps, there will be training in improv, scene study, and movement along with Newsies rehearsals and performance.

*This is a program requiring a high level of commitment from the participants; attendance is mandatory. Students will be asked to work on their lines, music, dancing, etc. at home in addition to the rehearsal time during the camp day. While an audition is not required for acceptance into the program, there will be an audition for role assignment during the first week of camp.
