This class focuses on preparing the actor for musical theatre audition and performance, through careful attention to each actor/singer’s strengths and weaknesses. Emphasis will be on music and text interpretation, singing and performance techniques, relaxing and unleashing the voice, and selection of strong material. Students bring at least one memorized musical theatre song to the first class, and will have the option to work on more songs over the six weeks of the course.

Classes are intentionally kept small to ensure every person receives extensive personalized feedback from instructors and meaningful collaboration with other students. No formal prerequisites are necessary, but students should have the ability to prepare a solo for presentation and to acquire sheet music for an accompanist. Students who take this class typically have some background experience in musical theatre, acting, and/or have taken one of the following classes at The Theatre Lab:
