Overview
In this class, students dive into short scenes to explore character, motivation, and storytelling. They learn to analyze dialogue, understand subtext, and bring their characters to life with authentic emotion and expression. Through acting exercises and rehearsal, students build their confidence and acting skills while also learning how to support their scene partners. Students receive feedback from the instructor and peers to refine their scenes and strengthen their scenework. The class culminates in a sharing where students perform their scenes for friends and family.
Given the nature of this class, attendance is crucial. Please make sure your child is available for the dates listed below. There will be some required work outside of class, including line memorization.

Kate Magill Robinson
Kate has been working as a drama teacher/director, arts education administrator, and costume designer for over 25 years. After earning her BA from Shippensburg University (PA),
she began her career as an actor, costume designer, and teacher for Gamut Theatre
Group (PA). Eventually, her life and career led her to become the Director of Education
for the Alabama Shakespeare Festival (AL), then the Marin Shakespeare Festival and
Cinnabar Theater (CA), where she focused on theatre programming for youth and
teens, curriculum and study guide creation, and managing artist residency programs.
After becoming a mom, Kate and her husband moved back to the East Coast to be
closer to family, and Kate has since worked part-time directing, teaching, and designing
costumes for various schools and organizations in Maryland. Recently, she developed
theatre classes for local homeschoolers, as well as a summer Shakespeare intensive for
teens.
