At The Theatre Lab, we want every student and parent to feel fully supported. Our camp policies are here to make sure expectations are clear, so you can focus on what matters most: seeing your child have a fun, engaging, and educational camp experience!
Accessibility: The Theatre Lab is committed to creating an environment where all students can thrive in an inclusive and welcoming space. Located within the Mount Vernon Place United Methodist Church building, the front entrance to The Theatre Lab is accessible, and the building contains elevators for classroom access. If your child requires assistance or learning accommodations, please contact our staff prior to enrollment to discuss reasonable and respectful accommodations. We are happy to discuss support strategies to help make sure your child has a successful camp experience.
Age/Grade Level: All participants should be registered only for programs listed for their grade level as of the upcoming fall school year. We understand that skill and experience levels vary, however students are required to register for their age appropriate programming.
Behavior: The Theatre Lab expects campers to value the contributions of others and to treat fellow students, instructors, and counselors with respect. We reserve the right to dismiss, without refund, any camper whose behavior is inappropriate and disruptive to the successful functioning of the camp group. If a camper poses a direct threat to their safety or that of others, in either word or deed, they may be immediately dismissed from the camp program.
Closed-Toed Shoes/Appropriate Clothing: Students must wear closed-toe shoes during the camp day. They should come wearing appropriate clothing that does not restrict movement.
COVID-19 Exposure Policy: Any student exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19 during the camp day will be sent home and required to show proof of a negative COVID test or, if positive, a fully completed quarantine period prior to returning to the classroom. If there is COVID exposure within a camp, a Theatre Lab staff member will email a parent/guardian as soon as possible.
COVID-19 Liability Waiver: By completing this registration, I acknowledge the contagious nature of COVID-19. I voluntarily assume the risk that my child and I may be exposed to or infected by COVID-19 by attending a The Theatre Lab Camp. The Theatre Lab staff will follow Covid protocols and CDC guidelines, but I understand that risk of exposure cannot be fully eliminated. I release The Theatre Lab from any and all liability and/or claims or damages arising out of personal illness of any kind. I agree to be responsible for any medical bills incurred resulting from an illness during my child’s participation at The Theatre Lab (signature required on the registration form).
Drop-Off/Pick-Up: Drop-off and pick-up will take place at our front entrance, 900 Massachusetts Ave NW. We keep building access limited for the safety of our students, staff, and building partners.
Electronic Devices: Students are encouraged to leave all electronic devices at home. If an electronic device causes disruption or distraction in the classroom, Theatre Lab staff reserves the right to take the device away until the end of the day.
Guests: To provide a safe environment, only registered students are permitted to stay in the classroom during the camp day. Any non-registered person, including parents/guardians, will need to be escorted by a Theatre Lab staff member.
Late Pick-Up: Please be considerate of staff by being on time for pick-up. The Theatre Lab will automatically assess a $15 late fee if your child is picked up more than 10 minutes after the assigned hour his/her program ends and $45 if your child is picked up more than 20 minutes past that hour. (Regular camp day ends at 3 p.m.; AfterCare ends at 6 p.m.)
Lunch and Snacks: All participants in our full-day camps should bring a lunch that does not require refrigeration or reheating. Please make sure that your child’s lunch does not contain nut products. If you are unable to provide lunch for your child due to financial need, please contact our office immediately, and we will arrange to provide a basic lunch. A morning snack will be provided to all participants in our 1st-8th grade programs.
No food is provided in the teen programs, but participants are welcome to bring their own food or snacks. All programs will have designated snack and lunch times and will take place outside, weather permitting.
Medical Care: In the event of an emergency requiring immediate medical attention, your child will be taken to the nearest hospital emergency room unless Theatre Lab staff is instructed otherwise by parents before the program begins. Theatre Lab faculty members may provide basic first aid, but do not administer medication of any kind to campers without prior written authorization. If your child requires medication dispensed during the camp day or a special arrangement of any kind, please contact Youth Program Director Terah Herman-Saldaña (terah@theatrelab.org).
Non-Discrimination: The Theatre Lab does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, gender, gender expression, age, national origin, disability, marital status, sexual orientation, or military status, and complies with all applicable laws governing discrimination.
Outdoor Time: Weather permitting, students will eat lunch and snack outdoors and be given outdoor recreation time. Heat and humidity will be taken into consideration on a day-by-day basis. Outdoor time will take place either on the 900 Massachusetts Ave property or at the Carnegie Library (801 K Street, 1.5 blocks away from The Theatre Lab).
Photography/Videography: The Theatre Lab reserves the right to use photos and videos taken in our programs for promotional purposes only.
Refunds: You must notify our office in writing before our stated deadline of your withdrawal from the program for a full refund minus a $20 cancellation fee. If you withdraw from the program during our stated window after the first deadline, one-half (1/2) of the cost of tuition will be refunded. After our final stated deadline, there will be no refunds. All stated deadlines are published at the time camp enrollment opens in January.
Registration: Tuition must be paid in advance. A student is registered only upon receipt of payment in full.
Returned Checks: A $25 fee for any returned/bounced check will be charged.
Staffing: The Theatre Lab reserves the right to make faculty substitutions in any of our programs.
Supervision: The Theatre Lab is not responsible for any child or teen in or around our facility beyond the specified hours of the particular program in which they are enrolled.
Waiver of Liability: I understand that The Theatre Lab makes every effort to provide a safe, enjoyable atmosphere in which to explore both the art and craft of acting. I recognize and acknowledge, however, that there are always risks of accident or injury and knowingly and voluntarily assume all risks of such injury. I release The Theatre Lab from any and all liability and/or claims or damages arising out of personal injury of any kind. I agree to be responsible for any medical bills incurred resulting from illness or injury during my child’s participation at The Theatre Lab (signature required on registration form).
