If you've ever seen a corporate training video (think of the pre-flight instructions you see on passenger planes) then you've seen an industrial film. You may not know the actors' names, but they're making a living with their talent. In this class students will learn to apply the same tools one brings to a three-act play to a 30-second commercial or a three-minute instructional video. Students will go through the process of cold-reading scripts for auditions as well as shooting their performances and reviewing them on TV afterwards. The goal of this class is to get students proficient at the types of material that provide a substantial amount of the paid acting work in the DMV acting market.

Cabaret is the art of storytelling through music, while making an intimate and personal connection with the audience. Each song—any kind of song—is a self-contained story sung from the singer’s perspective. This hands-on course explores all the many elements of cabaret performance, culminating in a public showcase featuring individual mini-sets developed over the course of the class.
Examples of What You’ll Learn
- Choose material that fits your unique skill sets and traits as a performer
- Apply a variety of methods to explore and practice a song
- Write “patter,” i.e., spoken or sung dialogue that acts as a narrative link between songs
- Structure a song set and cabaret show
- Rehearse and perform in a public production
