In this high-energy class, young performers will take their first steps into the world of movement and dance for musical theatre. Students will develop body awareness and coordination through movement and basic dance exploration. The class will focus on enhancing physicality and confident movement on stage. Students will be taken through various exercises that will help them become more self-aware and understand storytelling through movement. They will also learn basic choreography set to tracks from selected musical theatre songs to help them put their skills to work. Great for students who love singing along to their favorite musicals as well as those who are looking to further develop their movement skills as an actor.

This double-session course is designed to give students the experience of preparing a complex role from the beginning of a rehearsal process through the moment of performance. Working with both a professional director and a professional actor, students explore all the elements of acting in a full production, including text analysis, dramaturgy, character development, blocking, giving focus, taking direction, connecting to other actors, and dealing with the audience. This offering of the course culminates in four public performances of Radium Girls by D.W. Gregory. With lots of great roles for all types (all ages, races, genders, ethnicities, and experience levels), Radium Girls tells the true story of some factory workers in the 1920s who find themselves poisoned by the glowing paint they handle every day, and their fight for their safety and basic rights in the workplace. Auditions are low-key – no monologue required.
